About FOSS4G SotM Oceania
FOSS4G stands for “Free and Open Source Software for Geospatial Information Systems”. This is a conference series under the umbrella of the Open Source Geospatial Foundation intended to foster the development and use of open source software in the geospatial industry.
SotM stands for “State of the Map”, the conference held by the OpenStreetMap Foundation, which supports the development of a free and open editable world map.
In the Oceania region these are held together by the OSGeo Oceania chapter as the “FOSS4G SotM” Conference. The conference in Melbourne in 2018 was a considerable success, followed up by Wellington in 2019. This event attracted over 200 attendees from throughout the region.
The FOSS4G SotM Oceania Conference was planned to be an in-person international conference in Suva, Fiji. Unfortunately, with travel restrictions in place that event has been adapted into a hybrid online/in-person event, with hubs being organised in cities across the region, from Perth in the west to Rarotonga in the east, and many places in between.
